Wood VS Fiberglass

Wood VS Fiberglass

In any industry, there’s always a core difference in preferences of customers. In the fast food world, it’s Macca’s vs Hungry Jacks, in the tech world, it’s Android vs Apple and in the world of boats, it’s usually Wood vs Fiberglass. While both materials have their advantages, they also have their respective drawbacks. So, at the end of the day, it really does come down to personal preferences and choices. However, in this blog post, the team here at Lighting Boat Builders has put together a brief description of each material to give you a basic idea. So, let’s get to it!

Wood

Wood is obviously the more traditional building material between wood and fiberglass. Wood can actually be referred to as the most traditional building material when it comes to boat building because wood has been used to build boats for thousands of years. When it comes to modern day applications though, wood is mostly regarded because of its aesthetic properties. On the flipside, wooden boats require more boat maintenance.

Fiberglass

Fiberglass boats have been growing in popularity because of how durable they actually are. A fiberglass boat does not require as much care as a wooden boat does, but they are equally as sturdy and a bit lighter too. Fiberglass is not as susceptible to rotting as wooden boats. However, fiberglass boats don’t have the aesthetic appeal of a wooden boat.
