How to Maintain Your Boat

How to Maintain Your Boat

So, you’ve finally bought your dream boat. All the adventures on the high seas that you’ve always imagined are about to come true. It is very easy to get carried away with the excitement and novelty of a new boat, but it is important to keep some things in mind. The first thing any boat owner should always be aware of is his or her boat maintenance. It is vital to maintain your boat properly if you want it to function appropriately and at peak levels for as long as possible under any conditions. The Gold Coast team at Lightning Boat Builders has put together this handy list on how to best maintain your boat. So, without further ado, let’s get into it!

Our 6 Step Maintenance Guide

Step 1: Wash your boat regularly, it is best if you do this after every use. If your boat has been on saltwater, rinse with freshwater to get rid of salt residue.

Step 2: Use soaps and cleaners that are made exclusively for the material your boat is made of.

Step 3: Change the engine oil regularly. A good general rule to follow is to change your engine oil every 100 hours of use or once every year.

Step 4: Check your propellers regularly for chips, dents or other signs of damage. It is a good idea to do this every time before you launch your boat.

Step 5: Clean all the upholstery in your boat at least once every season. Using cleaners that are designed for the fabric you have is vital.

Step 6: Antifoul your boat at least once every year to ensure that your hull stays in pristine condition and the performance of your boat isn’t affected.

Let’s face it, boat maintenance is hard work and not everyone enjoys doing it. We, here at Lightning Boat Builders however, do! So, if you are ever in need of boat maintenance, just give us a call.
